Bio

Mark Weatherbe began his film career at the BBC in London in 1988 in the visual effects department. Since then, he has contributed in the special effects departments on numerous feature, television, commercial and music video projects. As a writer, he has spent the last four years focusing exclusively on his own projects, which currently include 15 feature length scripts and several treatments for television series. In 1999, as 2nd Unit Director and Mechanical FX Supervisor, Mark traveled to the Philippines for the feature film Blood Surf, directed by James Hickox. In 2000, Mark initiated Screaming Poodle Entertainment to facilitate development on projects that he opts to direct. Screaming Poodle has recently entered into a development deal on four feature length projects with Los Angeles and Toronto based Bash Films and two with Los Angeles based Doozy Films and 2 films with Los Angeles based Tucker Family Productions.

In 1982, Mark earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, specializing in Sculpture, Painting, and Film & Video, from the California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland. His first endeavor after college was making life size dinosaurs for various museum exhibits around the U.S. Six years later as an artistic and engineering specialist he found himself in London in the BBC ‘s visual effects department working on television projects Narnia, Red Dwarf, Dr. Who and ITV’s London’s Burning. Upon returning to California in1991, he joined the burgeoning special effects industry of Hollywood working on such films as Contact, Crimson Tide, Mighty Joe Young, Star Ship Troopers, Pinocchio, Space Truckers and Stuart Little among others. In addition, he worked on numerous television series including the award winning Earth II and Star Trek, The Next Generation. He has also participated in the making of over 25 commercials and music videos.

Through the years, Mark has forged strong relationships with some of the film industry’s most influential individuals and companies (i.e. Hoyt Yeatman, Mark Stetson, Screaming Mad George, Tony Krantz, Magical Media Inc. Aeriescope Pictures, Concord New Horizon, Amblin Entertainment, Jim Henson Productions Trimark Entertainment, Sony Pictures Columbia Pictures and Raw Feed 2). He has also had the opportunity to work in England, France, Switzerland, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Philippines, Utah, Ohio, and throughout California. Through his career he has served as Writer, Director, Producer, 2nd Unit Director, Art Director, Miniature Effects Supervisor, Mechanical Effects Supervisor, and Creature Shop Supervisor.

Mark and his wife divide their time between their homes in Los Angeles and London.
