Bio

Mark Weatherbe started out making crazy art videos in 1980s San Francisco, where he was an art student, all of which have thankfully now been lost. He has since directed 2nd unit on six films and directed several shorts and commercials in England, France and the U.S. He studied directing and editing at U.C.L.A.

In ’82, he got his B.F.A., in Sculpture, Painting, and Film & Video, from California College of Arts in Oakland. After college he worked for the BBC in London as a visual effects guy and then did special effects for many feature, television, commercial and music video projects including Dr. Who, Contact, Crimson Tide, Star Ship Troopers, Stuart Little and the award winning Earth II and Star Trek.

He has written 20 feature scripts, several television treatments and a couple of novels. In 2000, he started Screaming Poodle Entertainment to developed his own projects and produce other people ’s work. Screaming Poodle has development deals in Los Angeles and London.

He has worked with lots of show biz people and companies like Roger Corman, John Buechler, Guy Ritchie, Adam Green, Robert Downy, Jr. Joady Foster, Adam Baldwin, Concord, New Horizon, Amblin, Jim Henson ’s, Trimark, Sony, Columbia and Warner Brothers. He has worked throughout Europe, the U.S. and the Philippines. Weatherbe is a Writer, Director, Producer, 2nd Unit Director, Art Director, and Special Effects Supervisor.

He has directed performances from the following actors. Founded Screaming Poodle Entertainment a feisty little production company based in Los Angeles and London. Directed 120 days on 6 well received 35mm feature films for the lucrative horror, action and suspense markets. Clients included Trymark/Tapestry, Concorde/New Horizon, the Sci-Fi Channel, Fantastical Cinema and Aeriescope Pictures ’ very popular first outing, Hatchet. Also directed commercials for Screen Magic Ent./Honda, Neck Down Productions and Stranger and Stranger. Developed 20 feature scripts. Established development and production deals with various entities in London and Los Angeles including Screen Magic Ent., Fantastical Cinema, Eagle Eye Ent., Bash Films, UK Film Funding ltd. and Imageries Ent. Supervised special effects for IDT Entertainment, Warner Brothers/Raw Feed 2, Starz Media, Cut Glass Prod. and Hyenas Prod. Wrote, directed, produced and edited 5 short form projects as calling cards.

1989 to 2000 Special Effects Technician • Art Director

Starting at the BBC’s Special Effects Unit, in London England, designed and built special effects for various productions in the UK, moving to Hollywood worked extensively in special effects, designing engineering solutions for large and small scale animatronics creatures and implemented them on set for dozens of feature films. Created mechanical effects for numerous commercials, feature films and television shows for major players in the US and UK, Designed and implemented artistic solutions involving practical effects including mechanical effects, rain, snow, wind fire and pyrotechnics on many shows, including television, feature films and commercials. Continued to move back and forth between London and Hollywood freelancing on shows up to the 100 million dollar mark. Worked in the art departments of Sony, Disney, Dream Quest Images, Henson ’s Creature Shop, and Any Effects. Created Museum installation sculpting full sized dinosaurs, mammoths and other animals to a very high standard. Created art and special effects solutions for several large stage shows in London and Los Angeles. Worked in Switzerland, the Philippines, the Czech Republic, France and various of the United States. Wrote, directed, edited and produced short films while attending UCLA film school.
